Apps I Love: Simon
In a previous life, I had some custom perl scripts that alerted me when web servers went down. 3 months ago, I decided I’d re-write them in ruby and deploy them again for my needs today. Fortunately I remembered seeing Simon when I downloaded Time Out (which I also endorse).

MarsEdit ♥ Tumblr
I didn’t use MarsEdit since my custom blog software doesn’t offer an API it can use. I didn’t use Tumblr since its text entry seemed too weak.
Turns out I can use MarsEdit’s Markdown support to post to Tumblr. AND have local copies of all blog postings (though @marcoarment has mentioned they wish to eventually join the data liberation front).
